CS attorney to serve on library commission

Gov. Rick Perry recently appointed Larry Holt, a College Station lawyer, to a five-month term as a Texas State Library and Archives Commission member.

Holt replaces Sandra J. Pickett of Liberty, who resigned.

"As a several-generation Texan, it is an honor and a privilege to be responsible for the safe keeping and preservation of Texas history," said Holt. "I will take my duties seriously because I appreciate the history of the state and believe that it is important that new arrivals to Texas from other states and internationally understand our unique and rich history."

Holt attended Baylor University where, he received a law degree, and earned a Master of Laws degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He practices in the areas of estate planning, probate, trust, wills, real estate, oil and gas and public finance.

He said he's dedicated to the support of libraries and archives, as well as the role of each in enhancing and extending the total educational process.

He brings to the commission his legal knowledge of the importance of records maintenance and retrieval and his experience in representing educational and charitable foundations.

"My legal background emphasizes the importance of maintaining and archiving important documents," Holt said. "I also come from a family of public educators, so my interest is in libraries and in the support of librarians being able to assist the public at large."

The seven-member body is appointed by the governor to lead the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.

"I am looking forward to working with Mr. Holt and leaning upon his experience to further the support that we give to Texas libraries and archives," said Peggy D. Rudd, Texas State Library and Archives Commission director and librarian. "In my experience, commissioners have been extremely dedicated and knowledgeable individuals. I think Mr. Holt will find himself right at home."
