Local builder touts green construction

Hugh Stearns, owner of Stearns Design-Build, recently attended the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Phoenix, Ariz.

The annual conference, put on by the United States Green Building Council, is the largest of its kind in the world with more 28,000 people attending.

At the conference, Stearns took 14 hours of coursework that applies toward certification as a green remodeler. Stearns Design-Build has been involved in green building in the Brazos Valley for more than 15 years, he said.

Stearns said his goal is to build leadership in energy and environmental design certified homes and other projects in the area to reduce energy consumption and the carbon footprint over the lifespan of a building.
