Winery co-founder wins business award

Eagle Staff Report

Merrill Bonarrigo, co-founder of Messina Hof Winery and Resort, recently was named the Women's Chamber of Commerce Texas Business Woman of the Year's Texas Blazing Star of 2010.

The honors were announced at the association's luncheon April 22 in Austin. The prestigious distinction recognizes business women who are on the fast track to success, and follow their own path to get there. The luncheon, presented by the Women's Chamber of Commerce of Texas, is known as the "Academy Awards" for Texas business women, organizers said.

The coveted honors are given to business owners and professional women in Texas who go above and beyond, setting them apart from their colleagues, officials said.

Other awards presented at this luncheon are the Texas Business Woman of the Year award, honoring one woman who exemplifies inspirational success and brilliance, and the Star Employee awards, honoring the women who contribute greatly to the growth and success of their companies.

As the co-founder of Messina Hof, the fastest growing, award-winning winery and resort in Texas, Bonarrigo has been committed to the growth and success of the company since its conception, officials said. The Texas A&M graduate has more than 30 years of success within the wine and special events planning industry, along with her husband, Paul.

"I am thrilled and thankful to have received such a prestigious award," she said. "Not only does it encourage my dedication and desire to build and promote Messina Hof and the Texas Wine industry, it inspires me to mentor and assist other women with the entrepreneurial spirit. I am honored to be part of an event that represents such powerful and successful women."
