National Bank trusts now handled by Frost

Frost recently assumed management responsibility from Prosperity Bank for assets originally connected to the former First National Bank of Bryan.

Frost officials said they were operating a local office dedicated to trust clients from the former First National Bank of Bryan.

Beginning March 30, trust clients can visit with Frost officers in the new office on the second floor of the former First National Bank of Bryan building at 1862 Rock Prairie Road, Suite 201, in College Station, which is a Prosperity Bank location.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. took over the Franklin Bank (formerly known as First National) branches in November and was named as receiver after Franklin was shut down by the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending. The local Franklin banks were purchased by Prosperity Bank. Frost now is taking over the trust portion of the business.

Frost operates more than

100 financial centers across Texas in cities that include Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston.

Purchase finalized for old Westinghouse site

The College Station Science Park, LLC completed the purchase of the former Westinghouse property at 2501 Earl Rudder South on March 11.

Officials said they planned to be in operation by Sept. 1.

Lynntech Inc., a science and technology company, will consolidate the operations in the former Westinghouse facility and serve as the tenant in the project's master plan to redevelop the 53 acres as a park supporting scientific innovation and technology transfer.

The Research Valley Partnership provided a $500,000 three-year- term loan to Lynntech for property improvements and operations at the facility.

A&M to get improved cell phone coverage

Texas A&M University students and faculty are expected to receive improved cell phone coverage from Verizon Wireless and AT&T, which, separately, deployed expanded mobile coverage on campus.

AT&T and Verizon Wireless each completed a

$2.5 million project with NextG, the vendor selected by the university to build and operate a distributed antenna system throughout the campus.

Distributed antenna systems commonly are used where alternate technologies are not feasible because of terrain, zoning challenges for cell towers and tower placements, officials said.

Chamber planning

a networking event

The Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce will host a Business After Hours networking event March 26 at the Briarcrest Country Club.

Food, drinks and entertainment will be featured at the event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 1929 Country Club Drive.

The free event is open to the chamber's current and prospective members, officials said.

Village Foods opens in former AppleTree

The Village Foods Ltd. grocery store is now open in the former AppleTree location on Briarcrest Drive in Bryan.

Local owner Jim Lewis took over the operations of the 55,000-square-foot stare in October, and the official ribbon-cutting was held March 11.

Officials said they kept all the former AppleTree employees while adding some new faces. The store also has added more than 7,000 new natural, organic items. The old freezers were replaced, and more energy-efficient equipment was installed.

Additional plans include a deli sandwich-preparation station and coffee and smoothie equipment.
