Sunday

* St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 2700 W. Villa Maria Road in Bryan, will hold a worship service at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Jason Burnham will preach on "Live Ready," based on 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, the second in a sermon series titled "Revive." The Adult Sunday school class will meet at 9:15 a.m., and the parents group meets at 9:30 a.m. for the beginning of the church-wide study titled Awakening. Nursery care for children through age 4 is provided from 9:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Sunday school classes for children 3 years old through fifth grade start at 9:30 a.m. Children of all ages are welcome in worship, and a sermon activity time is available throughout the year for children who wish to participate. * First Christian Church, 900 S. Ennis St. in Bryan, will hold a worship service at 10:45 a.m. The Rev. Jesse Myers will preach on "In the Face of Hardship," based on 1 John 3:14-24 and Romans 8:35-39. Sunday school classes for all ages begin at 9:30, and the class on the Heroes of the Bible and Sport will continue the study of Job and Tom Osborne. * Faith United Church (UCC), 2901 Austin's Colony Parkway in Bryan, will hold a worship service at 10:30 a.m. Adult Sunday study of Gladys Hunt's The Parables of Jesus will begin at 9:15 a.m., followed by fellowship at 10 a.m. Pastor Karl Tewold's worship message is "The Cost of Doing God's Business." Guests are welcome.

* Christ United Methodist Church, 4201 Texas 6 South in College Station, will meet at 8:15, 9:30 and 11 a.m. as the Rev. Jerry House talks about the Gospel of John. Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m. Child care is available at all three services and Sunday school. Prayer service will be at 6 p.m. in Room S102 in the sanctuary building with the Rev. * First United Methodist Church, 506 E. 28th St. in Bryan, will hold worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jesse Bale preaching. Holy Communion will be celebrated. Sunday school classes meet at 9:45 a.m. Hispanic Ministry Sunday school is at 10 a.m., and worship is at 11:15 in the fellowship hall. Child care is provided. * The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Brazos Valley, 205 Wellborn Road in College Station, will hold a worship service at 10:30 a.m. Children's religious education classes will resume Sept. 12. Child care is provided for children under 4. Adult religious education meets at 9:30 a.m. The service will include the dedication of the new sign. * St. Mary's Catholic Church, 8227 County Road 205 in Plantersville, will hold its 55th annual Labor Day weekend homecoming and bazaar, featuring a homemade barbecue dinner beginning at 11 a.m. The price is $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The event will also include children's rides, a country store, games, a dunking pond, booths for all ages, live and silent auctions, a raffle and a dance to live entertainment throughout the day by Chris Rybak. Monday

* First Baptist Church in New Baden, is collecting items to ship to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan through Monday. Items and money for shipping costs are being collected. They also need addresses of soldiers. For more information, call 828-3481 or e-mail lewisbus@windstream.net.

Tuesday and Thursday

* Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 505 Boulevard St. in Bryan, will provide English classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration is Tuesday. For more information, call 822-1824.

Wednesday

* Christ United Methodist Church, 4201 Texas 6 South in College Station, will resume children's choir classes. Children ages 2 through sixth grade are invited to join. Cost is $20 per family. For more information, visit www.christ-umc.org.

Christopher Osgood, associate minister at St. Matthew. Special guests will be the Rev. A.C. Clark III and Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Friday

* St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, 409 Holleman Drive in College Station, will hold a pre-anniversary service for Pastor and Sister M.O. Cooper at 7 p.m. The message will be given by the Rev. Larry Johnson, associate minister at St. Matthew. Special guests will be Dr. C.L. King and Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church.

Sept. 12

* St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, 409 Holleman Drive in College Station, will hold a 30th anniversary and appreciation service for Pastor and Sister M.O. Cooper at 3:30 p.m. Special guests will be the Rev. Matthew Alix Sr. and the Greater True Vine Missionary Baptist Church of Houston.
