* Sterling Allen, minister of music and fine arts at A&M United Methodist Church, has set a Lenten goal of changing his life path from one of obesity to health. At more than 400 pounds, Allen has made a spiritual and physical dedication to lose 50 pounds during the liturgical season of Lent.
Generally, people decide to give something up during Lent as an act of submission; however, Allen has dedicated to give something up and add something major to his life. He will change his eating habits to a healthy diet and will be adding 2 to 3 hours of intense exercising to his daily routine. In addition, Allen will be writing a book of Lenten prayer devotions based on his journey that will be published during Lent of 2011.
"I feel obligated to do it for myself, for my family and friends, and for God," Allen said. "I'm eager to restore his original creation, and Lent is the best time of year to do that."
Allen will be joined on this Lenten journey with his fiancé, Jennifer Albert, who will marry him on May 22.
Allen will be keeping track of his progress on his Facebook group "Lenten Weightloss Journey with Sterling Allen."
For more information, call Allen at 224-1268.
