Walk Across Texas will celebrate its 10th anniversary in Brazos County with food, prizes and fun at this year's kickoff event.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Feb. 16 at Sue Haswell Park in Bryan, participants will track all of their physical activities in hopes of pooling their minutes to complete their goal of "walking" 830 miles across the state. In Brazos County, 15 consecutive minutes of any aerobic exercise will count as a mile.
Participants form teams of up to eight people and elect a team captain. Each member keeps track of his or her physical activity from Feb. 16 through April 13.
Each team's captain logs the group's miles into the Walk Across Texas Web site.
Awards for the most miles walked will be presented April 19 at the Last Mile Celebration.
A motivational Recharge! rally will be held March 29 at Sue Haswell Park. This will be another opportunity to rack up miles and earn prizes while playing games.
Participants who attend all three events will be eligible for special prizes at the Last Mile Celebration at Sue Haswell Park.
