Losing employees will cost A&M
I want to express my gratitude to Billy Pickard and Jim Kotch for the service they have given to Texas A&M University. Their years at Texas A&M will serve as reminders of what being a good Aggie is all about. Loyalty, sacrifice, character and dedication are all words that are synonymous with their names.
I cannot imagine coming to Kyle Field to watch a football game and not seeing Pickard on the sidelines, pacing up and down the track with walkie-talkie in hand.
I acknowledge that change is a necessary part of life. There is nothing in life, however, more important than the relationships we have with people. These men were more than just employees of Texas A&M University. No doubt Pickard is Texas A&M's biggest fan.
I firmly believe that any organization is only as good as its employees. Sadly, the powers that be at A&M put a much higher priority on protecting their bloated salaries during a budget crunch than on making sure that the employees handling the day-to-day operations are properly taken care of.
Employees such as Pickard and Kotch dedicated their lives to the well-being of A&M. For this, they deserve a whole lot more respect than what those entrusted with running A&M have given them.
Yes, budget cuts must be made by A&M, but firing its hardest- working employees is a cost to A&M -- one it cannot afford.
