BRYAN ELKS
The Brazos Valley Elks Lodge 859 has changed its name to Bryan Elks Lodge 859.
An Elks lodge was started in Bryan in 1903. But during the Great Depression, the lodge was forced to close. In 1959, a small group reorganized and regained the Elks charter. It was called Brazos Valley Elks 2096.
The group began meeting in a small building off of Old College. In 1962, Woodson Lumber Company donated the land where the lodge is currently located, behind the Old Triangle Bowling Alley. After several years of construction, the lodge moved into its new building.
In 1996, the lodge successfully petitioned to regain its original number, and became Brazos Vally Elks 859. Now, the name has been changed to reflect the club's history in Bryan.
According to lodge members, the Elks assist local veterans, youth, schools and the community; Elks sponsor the largest student athletic event in the U.S. and provide more than $200 million of benevolence each year -- primarily assisting children; and Elks are the largest provider of student scholarships in the U.S.

Before joining the city of Bryan staff in August 2007, Rogers gained more than 30 years of experience working as a private consultant, including 18 years as owner of his own firm.
The Certified Stormwater Manager certification is intended to identify experts in the public and private sectors who coordinate and implement stormwater management programs for city, county, state, provincial and federal agencies.

A certified stormwater manager assists in administering drainage, flood control and water quality programs. Water quality programs include state and federal permit requirements related to stormwater runoff, including management of public education, illicit discharges, erosion control, post-development runoff Best Management Practices, system maintenance, water quality monitoring, data analysis and reporting.
Drainage and flood control programs include operational maintenance of drainage systems, planning and construction of capital improvements and basic knowledge of flood plain management.
