'American Gladiator' winner is an Aggie

An Aggie known as the "inTIMidator" is the new American Gladiator champion.

Monday night's taped season finale episode showed Tim Oliphant -- a 1997 A&M graduate who works as a media director for a Christian summer camp in Branson, Mo. -- winning the championship, $100,000 and an SUV.

Reached by phone Monday, the 5-foot-8 contestant told The Eagle that he was surprised at how well he did on the show and the notoriety he has received.

"I am loving every minute of the success," he said, adding that he has heard from "tons" of friends from college since he has been on TV.

He also said he was proud to have represented Texas A&M -- picking up where fellow Aggie and star of last season's American Idol Jason Castro left off.

"It is such a great school to represent and I think there is something about the students that go to Aggieland and get backing of the 12th Man and that kind of stuff," he said. "I love my school and I want to represent them.".

Comment Title: wow?
Aggies "always" choke? I love how you have no reasoning for this opinion that you gave on aggie sports. Big 12 Baseball Champs? 4 Straight Big 12 Championships for Women's Soccer? Seem like real sports to me there, Pal.

A&M won something!! Too bad it is a crappy show like American Gladiators, instead of a real sport where aggies always choke!!
