Police: Man stole feminine products

A Bryan man with three prior theft convictions remained jailed late Sunday after being charged with stealing female products from a local store, officials said.

Police said they were investigating an intoxicated driver at the intersection of South Texas Avenue and Villa Maria Road in Bryan at about 4 a.m. While standing in the parking lot of CVS Pharmacy, officers said they saw someone in the doorway of the store yell to them and point at a red 1990 Chevrolet Bronco.

Alvin Lawrence Green was sitting in the back seat and gave police a different name when asked, according to reports. Police asked the driver for consent to search the vehicle and found two boxes of RepHresh Vaginal Gel and boxes of Secret deodorant, totaling almost $67, according to police reports.

Green repeatedly said he didn't steal anything, according to police reports. He changed his story and admitted to taking the products because the female driver needed them, he told police.

The man was charged with theft of property less than $1,500 with two or more previous convictions, a state jail felony, punishable by up to two years behind bars.

He was also charged with failure to identify.

Green was convicted of theft of $50 to $500 in 2003, theft of $500 to $1,500 and theft less than $1,500, both in 2004.

Bail was set at $9,500.
