Insurance services firm assets acquired
College Station-based Richard S. Smith & Associates has changed its name to Brown & Co. Insurance Services, effective
July 1.
Bryan Brown, vice president of the company, said he and others acquired the assets of Richard S. Smith & Associates -- a firm with which Brown has shared offices for several years.
Smith will remain a principal partner of the firm, and Sharon Brown will become president.
Texas CPA group elects new cabinet
The Brazos Valley chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants has elected Kay Dobbins as president for 2008-09.
The organization also elected Joe Dunn as vice president/president-elect, Amber Bass as secretary and Edward Zavodov as treasurer. Committee chairs include Keely Dunn, Jodi Jones, Lyn Kuciemba, Tracy Stewart, Rodney Horrell and Jim Ingram.
Economist to offer outlook on B-CS
Elliot Eisenberg, a senior economist at the National Association of Home Builders in Washington, D.C., will deliver an economic outlook briefing in College Station on July 24.
The event will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hilton College Station Hotel and Conference Center. Tickets are $18.
Eisenberg frequently speaks on the economic impact of home-building, the unintended consequences of government regulations on house prices, residential fire safety and how to reduce risk and boost profits using housing derivatives, according to information supplied by the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce.
He created the multi-family stock index and is the author of more than 45 homebuilding industry articles. He's appeared on television and radio, and his research has been featured in numerous publications, according to the chamber.

Blinn to give legal careers sessions
Blinn College's Legal Assisting program will offer two information sessions on Thursday and July 24 for students interested in legal careers.
The sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 237 of the Student Center building on the Bryan campus. Prospective students can get information on Blinn's one-year certificate and two-year associate degree plans, which include family law, litigation, personal injury, trusts, probate, criminal law, legal research, along other areas of study.
