The Sexual Assault Resource Center in Bryan will begin a volunteer training course Oct. 1.
Those who attend the class will learn to answer the center's 24-hour crisis line and work with local hospitals and law enforcement agencies in helping victims of sexual assault.
Training will include aspects of law enforcement, legal and hospital procedures, the effects of drugs and tours of emergency rooms and courthouses.
Those interested in becoming advocates for the center must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check and be interviewed.
Anna Chowdhury, the center's director of advocates, said the agency was recruiting volunteers early because of the commitment involved in the training.
"It is an intense monthlong training, three nights a week, three hours a night, for four weeks," Chowdhury said. "Putting the word out early gives those who really want to volunteer time to arrange their schedules."
