Mark your calendar

High school football season kicks off Friday, with Bryan facing Cypress Falls at home and A&M Consolidated traveling to Round Rock to open the year against McNeil High School. Kickoff for both games is set for 7:30 p.m. During halftime of the Bryan game, school officials will formally rename Viking Stadium for Merrill Green, Bryan's longtime football coach who retired in 1991. Merrill Green Stadium will also be used for Rudder High football games. The Rangers' first game is Sept. 5 against Cleveland.

Monday

EDUCATION

First day of school for Bryan and College Station. Leave your house in plenty of time to get to school and work on time since school zones will be in effect. Several Bryan schools have changed their start times. Go to http://www.bryanisd.org/news.asp?newsID=433 for an updated list.

GOVERNMENT

Texas Ave. Agenda items include the proposed property tax rate, the 2009 fiscal year budget and a closed session to discuss a lawsuit against College Station concerning the cities' joint operation of the Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency.
