15 express interest in adopting kitten
Eagle Staff Report
About 15 people have applied to adopt Emma, a kitten whose leg had to be amputated this week.
Veterinarians from Aggieland Animal Health Center & Pet Resort in College Station said the 12-week-old kitten was recovering well. Staff members from the animal clinic will select an owner who can provide "the emotional and physical care that a kitten needs," they said.
Gwendolyn Inocencio, manager of client services at the center, said people can visit Emma starting Friday, but she won't be able to leave the clinic for another two weeks.
Several people have also offered to help pay the cost of Emma's surgery, estimated at $2,500, Inocencio said.
The people who brought the kitten to the animal hospital said two 10-year-old boys had twisted a portion of a rear leg off at a Hearne trailer park.
Hearne authorities did not return phone calls Thursday on whether the incident would be investigated.
"College Station and Bryan seem to be pretty good with following up on animal cruelty cases, but in other communities with bigger crime issues, they don't care. It's sad," said Laura Bay-Williams, president of the Brazos Valley Veterinary Medical Association. "Some are serious about pursuing justice, and others think, 'Boys will be boys.'"

Comment Title: Calling Lawyers
Perhaps an attorney could answer this question. If Hearne police do not follow-up could the Robertson County Sheriff instigate an investigation? Seems to me that if Hearne or Robertson County cannot or will not police their towns and county it is time for the Texas Rangers to get involved. Good citizens please don't let this case go. For their own good, these boys need to learn that actions have consequences. If you reside in Hearne or in Robertson county, contact the officials and let them know you expect an investigation.

Comment Title: lots more kitties out there
To the 14 people who don't get to take this kitty home, there are a whole bunch of kitties in need of homes at Brazos Animal Shelter, and through two groups that take foster pets to Petco on Saturday afternoons. All homeless pets are special, so please consider one that hasn't been in the news.

According to the FBI, most serial killers began their careers like this; torturing and killing animals.

Comment Title: Cruelty is NOT normal
If Hearne doesn't have the police force needed to be proactive against crime, they can flush their city away. These cruel boys will grow up to be Hearne's next generation of murderers. That's a well-researched fact. If the City fails to act on a case this public - the story ran in major papers in Texas - then they're publicly giving criminals a safe haven.

Comment Title: WHAT!?!?!?!?
City of Hearne Law Enforcement (OR LACK THEREOF), Please take the time to publicly respond and explain to me (and many others that care I am sure) why these 2 poor excuses for humans aren't locked up in juvie!!! I don't care how old they are. They are old enough to suffer some pretty strong consequences for their actions. The thought that 2 boys could do such a thing makes my stomach sick.
