Texas A&M University Transportation Services will begin removing abandoned bicycles May 12 as part of the annual bike cleanup program held before the summer session.
All bikes that are abandoned or not parked in a designated bike parking area will be removed, administrators said, noting that up to 1,000 bicycles are sometimes left on campus at the end of the year. All locks, wheels and bike parts attached to bike racks also will be removed.
Faculty, staff and graduate students who bike to campus for work, teaching or research are encouraged to place a rubber band on the right handlebar to alert crews that the bike should not be removed from the rack.
