Aggie teams vie for next round in tourney
Get ready for a double dose of Aggie basketball, with both the men's and women's teams competing today in NCAA Tournaments.
The Texas A&M men will try for their second straight Sweet 16 appearance when they play UCLA at 8:15 p.m. at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The game will be aired on KBTX, the local CBS affiliate.
The Aggie women will kick off Saturday's rare television doubleheader for A&M basketball fans by taking on the University of Texas at San Antonio at 11 a.m. That game, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La., will be aired on ESPN2. For more on the game see Sports, B1.
The A&M women, 26-7, are a No. 2 seed in the Oklahoma City Regional. The Aggies have won 13 of 14, winning the Big 12 tournament. UTSA, 23-9, won the Southland Conference tournament. The A&M-UTSA winner advances to play the Syracuse-Hartford winner Monday night in the NCAA Tournament's second round.
The A&M men, 25-10, advanced with a 67-62 victory over Brigham Young University on Thursday night, while West Regional No. 1 seed UCLA, 32-3, grabbed a 70-29 victory over Mississippi Valley State.
UCLA beat A&M last season in the Wooden Classic at the Honda Center. The A&M-UCLA winner will play in to Phoenix on Thursday. The Aggies lost to Memphis last season in the Sweet 16.
