Ambulance hits car; three injured

Two Bryan paramedics and an 81-year-old woman were treated for injuries Tuesday after an ambulance collided with another vehicle on East Villa Maria Road.

Police said the ambulance was responding to a call around 2 p.m. when the accident occurred. The ambulance was traveling west when it moved into the center turning lane to avoid traffic and hit the left side of a car, which was in the inside westbound lane, according to police.

There was no patient in the ambulance at the time of the collision. James Strictland, 28, and Steven Carsey, 33, who were en route to an accident at Earl Rudder Freeway and Boonville Road, were treated for minor injuries.

Evelyn Zajackowski, the driver of the car, was listed in fair condition Tuesday evening at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

Under STATE LAW an you must yeild to an Emergency Vehicle whether it be EMS, Fire, Law Enforcement, etc; With that said; No Emergency vehicle has the any right to run a red light or anything break any other driving law with or without any lights or sirens. The law only gives right of way, not the right to hit your vehicle. It's very common for Law enforcement to save EMS or Firs butt when they can. It protects Law Enforcements employer the Elected Officials embarassement, and if they can get an 81 year old to sign a ticket it helps them to say it was her fault. A family member CANNOT sign a ticket which only says you have received a citation, and not that you are guilty of anything. Traffic court is for your plea. Any 1st day law student, or cop wannabe can tell you that. One thing is for sure. There sure seems to be some on here wanting to cover up a ugly mess even if the 81 yr old was right, and dies from her injuries. EMS is showing no shame, and aggorance at it's worse. God Help Texas!!! Someone call Maxie Bishop as DSHS.

It's NOT a cover up....whether or not the elderly lady DESERVES a ticket is not up for debate....under Texas law, she FAILED to yield to an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens. Doesn't matter if you disagree, in the state of Texas, the blame rests on the motorist, not the emergency services for that charge. The police aren't doing anything underhanded, they are simply enforcing the law, what they are hired to do. Get off their backs.

The medics posting here area saying let your ASS lie there and dye and save the tax money. Are they saying that is why the patient died on PHI Med 12 and they let their crew die also to justify a call that Life Flight had flown to and turned around because their crew and patient safety came first. Safety, Safety, Safety. Drop the I want to be a HERO stuff. The only Heros are dead ones. Those that posted here have shamed the crew and patient on that tragic flight, and shown why so many Air Med Flights (Mostly Texas) have lost so many crews and patients. It's time DSHS (The State) Steps in and start taking away some Resue Ricky personnel and Providers licenses and add some stiff fines and penitlies and even that won't bring those lives back. By the way we citizens pay taxes so they can drive or fly and we also get a monster medical bill from these so called heros that have one hand on your pocket book. Remember even the non profit volunteer and government groups are hitting you for about a $2,000, $3,000 ambulance bill nowadays and the Air Med part can be up to $25,000. Even the private ones are getting Federal and State fund taxpayer grants every year along with the Hospitals, and they say people don't pay.

My thoughts and prayers are with your grandmother. I can tell you 99.99% of EMS personnel are not like some of the people posting here, and are professionals. What the Medics did ( the non driver has a mouth to say something to the driver) was not think about nothing but woo, woo, and I'm Rescue Ricky and I can justify what I do, because people love me. I risk my life to save others. NOT. What they did was put your grandmother and themselves in a life threathening situation and could have killed everyone. I would get the HAMMER. Talk to the City and County Officials with the HAMMER and I promise you will be doing EMS and the Public a favor and YOU or your GRANDMOTHER will save many lives. They now have Christian Lawyers advertising that it is GODS will that those that have been done wrong should receive compensation for the sins committed againist them. God Bless them and we pray for the medics health and well being since we are not hateful as the medics posting here and wanting you Grandmothers ASS to lye there and die and save taxpayers money as one ASS put it. EMS is saying on these post for all of us to DIE!!!!

This was my poor grandmother who has a broken pelvis and a crushed hand that will never be the same. She indeed has all her wits about her and has every right to drive. This ambulance hit her as she was turning from the turning lane so it was actually all the way over in the on coming traffic lane. It sounds like an accident that could have happened to anybody but what pissed us off is the cops trying to give my grandma a ticket. They said if she didn't sign it they would issue an arrest warrant for her. WTF!!! She is injured because of someone else's negligence and irresponsible driving. I don't know if she will take legal action or not but if it was me I'd be dialing up Jim Adler the "TEXAS HAMMER"

for those paramedics that get soooooo excited...... calm down. We will lye there and let our lame asses dye AS LONG as you dont cost us more money by hurting other people. Your job is to get there safetly..... We ( adult drivers) are not looking for SILENT speeders driving on the wrong side of the road. Obviously the only people who do that are drunks at 2am and EMS at 2pm.

This is scaring me. So many EMS people coming out and wishing people would just lie and die. So just want to comdemn those of us they feel are to old to live, or have a right to legally drive, and blame us for their accidents and mistakes. I hope the City and County read these post as I will send them to them so they can see what kind of response their personnel, or supporters of their employee give when an 81 yr olds life in hanging out there min by min. These are scary people that have no right to respond to any public assistance and needs serious MHMR counseling.

Looks like those on here that are telling others we'll let your ass lie there and die feel that way about the public and others just feel the laws don't apply to them. So you now have put your once profession in the class of being a potential criminal. There are bad apples in every profession and looks as there are plenty lurking on this story post and will use their own grand parents story to try to condemn other elderly people involved in a serious accident to justify a means. I pray for the ambulance crew and the one person in the hospital that was doing no wrong or harm. So to the 81 yr old little lady in the much smaller vehicle without a lights and sirens we pray for your recovery soon. The EMS folks on here just appear to wish you more harm.

Slow down and get there in one piece fellas! It doesn't matter who is at fault because the bottom line is you failed to do your job. Your job is to arrive SAFELY at the scene, not become another victim while in route. Come on guys that is wild west hero stuff and it has no business in your profession.

ahhh...seniors and driving. Kudos to the elderly female, if she has her whits about her, but when my grandpa was 76, he got in his car to go to the donut shop one morning...and ended up in louisiana. Also had a few other mishaps, with him parking his car in the middle of a freeway...after that it was about time to take the car away from grandpa.

Comment Title: To the Rescue Rookie guy and others
We as paramedics in this day & time can actually save a life in an ambulance. If it were not for the rigorous training we are put through people would have a greater chance of dying everyday. So mister Rescue Ricky, before you start EMS personal, you should think about our capabilities. To the others that think the ambulance is automatically at fault, we always pass on the left when running lights & sirens...hence what you taught in drivers education, you pull to the right for lights & sirens and stop!!!

According to the investigation, it was the 81 yr old ladies fault. To the "show me the money" guy, since you obviously don't appreciate people risking life and limb to save others. So next time your lame ass is dying, lay there and die and let's now waste precious taxpayer money to save yours.

The owners of the Ambulance's insurance will pay out the nose and all will get a settlement out of court. This is a slam dunk for any lawyer worth their salt. This is what happens when Rescue Ricky's think they have special laws, and they really don't. Their woo, woo, will turn in to a boo, boo!
