Labor Day, first celebrated 128 years ago, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of the United States, according to the Department of Labor.
Some local offices will be affected by the holiday Monday:
* Texas A&M University: Open
* Blinn College: Open
* Schools: All Bryan schools and offices closed, except for Bryan Collegiate High School; College Station schools are not on holiday
* Post offices: Closed; no mail delivery
* Banks: Most banks closed
* Libraries: All branches of the Bryan-College Station library system will be closed
* Municipal offices: Bryan and College Station offices will be closed
* Utilities: Bryan Texas Utilities and College Station Utilities will be closed
* Courts: Closed
* County offices: Closed
* State offices: Most agencies closed
* Federal offices: Most agencies closed
* The District bus service: No service
* Trash collection: Bryan and College Station routes will operate normally
* Recycling: Bryan and College Station recycling facilities will be closed; there will be no pickup and no makeup day
* Newspaper: The Eagle business office will be closed. Newspapers should be delivered by 6 a.m. Call 776-2345 before 10 a.m. if you didn't receive your paper.
