BISD: Expected to rename high school after Travis Bryan Jr.

School board members are expected to vote on renaming Bryan High after Travis Bryan Jr. during a 6 p.m. meeting Monday at the administration building.

In September, Travis Bryan Jr., whose family is the namesake for the city, died at the age of 87. He was a banker who was involved in many community organizations over the decades.

Superintendent Mike Cargill said he wanted to honor Bryan and the work he did for the community by renaming the school. He said he expected the vote to pass.

Straw Poll
President Obama is calling for a major new burst of federal spending, aiming to jolt the economy into a stronger recovery and reduce double-digit unemployment. Despite Republican criticism concerning record federal deficits, Obama said the U.S. must continue to "spend our way out of this recession" as long as so many people are out of work. Do you think more federal spending is a good idea at this time?
