BV area is hub of activity this weekend

So much to do. So little time.

Brazos Valley has all kinds of events scheduled for this weekend: An air show, concerts, a mushroom festival, rodeo, a celebration of dogs and planned explosions.

* The annual Coulter Air Classic is set from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Bryan airfield. The free event will feature an aerobatic pilot from Viper Airshows, formation flights by modern and historic aircraft, static aircraft displays, World War II re-enactors with a World War II Jeep and skydiving from Skydive Aggieland. Food and entertainment for all ages will also be featured.

* Brazos Animal Shelter's Wiener Fest starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at Wolf Pen Creek Park in College Station. Bring your pets and enter them in an event. The program starts with a 5K walk and run, but there's also a pet parade and costume contest, wiener races, "wanna be a wiener" races and entertainment. Participants can register at 7 a.m. Competition last year drew 200.

* Live at the Ballpark (Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark, 2200 Bomber Drive) is an all-day musical festival Saturday that will feature headliner Stoney Larue, Big Otis, Kathy Ross and nine more bands. A rib cook-off, concessions and games are part of the event.

* The Brazos County Expo is hosting the Texas A&M All Aggie Rodeo starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the gate and are $6 or $5 with an Aggie ring.

* The eighth annual Texas Mushroom Festival runs all day Saturday in Madisonville. The event includes 200 arts and crafts vendors, a farm and ranch section, 17 wineries hosting tastings, seven chefs conducting cooking demonstrations with mushrooms, a kids zone, petting zoo and pony rides and a car show. New this year is a dance that will be hosted from 8 to 11 p.m. under the festival tent with FM 2865 performing.

* The three-day Rock the Republic music and sound festival will end Saturday, with doors opening at 6 p.m. in downtown Bryan. Musical artists will perform at various locations, including Revolution Cafe and Bar, The Stafford Main Street, Art 979, Murphy's Law and StageCenter Theater.

* The Texas A&M Chemistry Department will host its annual open house with its standard fires and explosions. The event runs from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the foyer of the Chemistry Building on Ross Street. Demonstrations of popular science will be at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. in Room 100.

Free parking is available in Lot 51 behind the Zachry Building, and paid parking is available in the Northside Parking Garage.
