State Rep. Fred Brown, R-Bryan, announced Tuesday that he will be seek a seventh term on the Texas House of Representatives in the upcoming 2010 election.
"Being called to serve the people of Bryan-College Station has been one of the greatest privileges of my life," Brown said in a news release. "I intend to uphold the faith that the people have shown in me and ensure that the citizens of this incredible community continue to have a strong, experienced voice in the Texas Legislature."
Controversial former district judge Rick Davis announced last week that he would run for the seat. Former Brazos County Tax Assessor-Collector Gerald "Buddy" Winn announced his candidacy for the position Nov. 1.
No Democrats have announced their candidacy in the heavily Republican district that comprises all of Brazos County except the northwest corner.
Brown, a local businessman, was first elected to the House in 1998. He has not faced a major challenger to his seat this decade. He serves on the Appropriations and Technology, Economic Development and Workforce committees.
The filing period starts Dec. 3 and ends Jan. 4; the primary is March 2.
