Crews from Bryan's water department will begin testing sewer lines on Friday in an attempt to find broken pipes and other defects.
The testing will take place over several days and includes properties within the boundaries of Bristol and East 29th streets, Carter Creek Parkway and Broadmoor Drive. The reverse 911 system will be activated to notify those in the area.
The process involves introducing smoke into the sewer lines and manholes. The smoke will exit from vent pipes on the roofs of houses. The smoke is nontoxic, leaves no residue, creates no fire hazard and will not enter a house unless there is defective plumbing or the drain traps are dry. To help prevent smoke from entering a home, residents are urged to pour about a gallon of water into any seldom-used drains.
