Burglary shocks couple

Eagle photo/Stuart Villanueva
Carolina Guillory recounts how she and her husband, Mike, returned from their honeymoon to their Bryan home to discover that they were victims of a break-in.

Newlyweds Carolina and Mike Guillory just wanted to rest on Tuesday night when they came home from their two-week honeymoon.

But when they arrived, the couple said, they were shocked: Their Bryan apartment had been ransacked, and everything -- from the food in the refrigerator to their flat-screen TV -- had been stolen.

At first, Mike Guillory said, the two thought maybe there had been a mistake.

"My first thought was somebody was playing a joke on us," Mike Guillory said.

Then they saw the frame from the back door lying on the floor and realized they had been burglarized.

Bryan police officers were at the couple's home Tuesday evening but found no fingerprints or signs of the people who took their things, the Guillorys said. Mike Guillory said he doubts they will find who broke into their apartment.

The Guillorys are among the hundreds of Bryan-College Station residents whose homes and cars have been burglarized in recent weeks, officials said. More than 230 burglaries had been reported in the two cities between Dec. 16 and Monday.

Bryan and College Station police spokesmen said Wednesday that there were burglaries of five homes, including the Guillorys', and of two vehicles reported between Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon. Of those, only one vehicle burglary occurred in College Station.

"Everything is pretty much gone," Carolina Guillory said.

Carolina Guillory, 30, works as a health educator for the Brazos Valley Community Action Agency while Mike Guillory, 38, owns two Quiznos franchises and manages the Bryan location.

The two met through friends in 2007 and were married in the U.S. in September. They traveled to Colombia, where Carolina Guillory's family lives, for a second ceremony and honeymoon.

They moved into the Willow Oaks apartment complex about a month ago and left for Colombia on Dec. 23.

While they were gone, burglars took the couple's jewelry, clothes, alcohol, dog bed, wall decorations, appliances, electronics, computers and TVs, along with all the food.

"Every single corner," Carolina Guillory said, shaking her head. "They checked every single corner. I'm sure they had loads of time."

Thieves also took many of the couple's legal and financial documents, although they left the couple's furniture. A few pieces of the couple's stereo system remained wrapped in a blanket on a bed, as though thieves had planned to return.

Carolina Guillory said it feels like an invasion of privacy.

"It's like they went through all of your personal stuff, stuff you don't want to show anybody," she said.

Mike Guillory said the most disturbing things taken were four handguns and a rifle that were given to him by his father.

Neighbors told police they saw people coming in and out of the apartment and heard loud music playing on Christmas Eve but did not realize the Guillorys were not home.

"We just moved here, so nobody knows us," Carolina Guillory said.

The couple said they are at a loss as to how to replace their belongings, most of which they had received as wedding gifts weeks before they left for Colombia. They do not have renters insurance.

But the two agreed there's no use mourning what they lost. It's "just stuff," they said.

"A new year and a new start," Carolina Guillory said.

Dear Carolina & Mike, I am so sorry to hear about your loss! It is just awful and so unfair. I love the quote that it is "just stuff." You have each other thank God. We heard about your loss at our church and hope to be sending a little help. Our prayers are with you!Read Isaiah 41: 10 - 15.

A youth that is involved in illegal activity - drugs, alcohol, robbery, burgulary - are a direct reflection of the child's parent. Plain and simple. If the kid is bad - it's because the parent was bad. You don't have to agree with it or like it, but it's a proven fact. If you suck as a parent, you can bet your kid will suffer for it.

Is that all you got? I make multiple cracks and "funnies" and you come in here with that lame garbage! Take your weak game back to finfeather BLVD or your hole in townshire. Here's another one for you: this should be the City of Bryan's slogan: "The city of Bryan, our crime is better than yours and we have better pawn shops". Maybe we should pull our troops out of IRAQ and send them to Bryan. Get a grip on your detention centers....I mean schools please! College Station is tired of paying for your underachieving, crime riddled, excuse laiden schools. Even your top football player that went to A&M got arrested and booted off of the team. Well, CS does have TP but he tried to rob a motel with a bb gun. What's the over under on how many weeks it will take Bryan to turn that nice "new" movie theater on Boonville into a crack house....oh, it has already happened! The pope would not watch a movie there! Get some game before you try to talk smack.....homey!

Alot of people come in to comment places just to act stupid. They know that we can't see them, or find them. So it's a sort of cowardly act to sit in here and bash folks. Most of them have no life or no real friends either. Don't take it personal. If you put serious and emotional issues on here for idiots to look at, they are certainly going to show us how friggin stupid they are with their comments. Don't let it get you down. Just don't put it out here for them to comment about.

Working in the field with dysfunctional communities, persons, crime, murders, mass disasters (like Katrina's 1500 dead), and also being an altar boy 50 years ago for eight years serving approximately 1 to 2 funerals a week (lived across the street from the Church) AND about 3 weddings a month for 8 years allows me to say a few things mostly about the comments and commenters about my Nephew's apartment break-in and tragic losses: FIRST marriage is a special time and a honeymoon is a special thing, to end it like this is more important to contemplate than statistics for pro-rated crime districts... I understand community concern, but what does it say that there are only a few consoling remarks to the bride? ONE DORK wrote how did they get her to pose in shock and grief again for the camera? i ask that person, who is not really a dork, that if I show them a photograph of their mother's home vandalized, how many would need photographers and reporters to remind them to feel dismay, distress, and even perhaps make a common hand gesture to ward off being seen crying. IF i ask you, when did your brother die AND you tell me in 2006 the death rate was about 2.8 per 10,000 and your brother was the seventeenth lung cancer patient to die in Texas that year, 2006, does that seem a bit inhuman and with the answer a bit menial at best? The groom, MICHAEL GUILLORY, my nephew lost his father in 2006 to a tragic lung disease that chopped him down in his prime leaving MICHAEL with a few inherited mementos, one of which was my dad's .22 semi-automatic rifle, handed down from my dad, to CHARLES GUILLORY, jr. and then to MICHAEL. SO, LET ME GIVE YOU ALLONE STATISTIC of a demographic sort to ask if we could be sympathetic to the victims a bit in our society? The list of stolen items included old food, electronics, personal papers (Digg that!) AND AN ANTIQUE .22 RIFLE WHICH MICHAEL GOT BECAUSE HIS FATHER DIED TWO YEARS BEFORE SOME SCUM FROM WHO THE HELL CARES WHERE (I believe the locale is relevant and to keep it simple KISS LET'S CALL THE PLACE T-E-X-A-S!!!!!) DIGG? LET me summarize; Would a non-cynical kind person please post a comment to MICHAEL AND CAROLINA and ask if they need plates, sheets, food...OR when you go by QUISNO'S express concern for the emotional and spiritual health of the victims. The bad guys are already punished in fact, if you use wisdom to guide your logic, statistically those kind get sick and in a lot of phew mess in their lives, DIGG. i am the brother of MICHAEL'S DEAD FATHER AND AM GOING TO HELP THE VICTIMS, AND I am very comfortable knowing the intellectual dimension will be rehashed for us by some of the readers. I THANK EVERY SOCIOLOGICAL, FORENSIC, COMMUNITY STATISTICAL typist! I RETIRED FROM NUMBERS AND DATA, AND FIND PRAYER AND PEOPLE ARE BETTER A FOCUS FOR A MAN'S LIFE.

It is upsetting to see how Bryan citizens have become corrupted with narcotics, prostitution, and a life of welfare. I was reading about this person called the CS/AM basher from Bryan and how he has claimed to be a lawyer, a doctor, an A&M student, a congressman and millionaire land developer that only buys property in Bryan. For some reason some Bryan residents have let the city decay to such a point that they have become obsessed with College Stations wealth and the poverty that afflicts most Bryan residents today. The fact is we are in one fish bowl and and their side has a sewer leak and are unable to process their trash. I have even read this person claims to be a third generation Bryan resident whose family has been involved in coverups while working at CSPD. One can only hope this pathetic type of lifestyle and activity in Bryan will stop

College Station is implementing a new program (Geographic Accountability) similar to one put in place by Bryan in 2008. With all of the burglaries going on in the city, residents say they are excited about the new system and feel more comfortable calling police, said Lt. Mike Pavelka. (KRHD). Something must be done as College Station is currently outpacing Bryan in burglaries.

What an awful thing to happen to a newlywed couple. A tough start to a new marriage but it appears they have their priorities in order. My good friend has a similar franchise and he is up to his neck in loan debt. Wonder if this couple is the same? I believe I'll go by soon and buy a sandwich and do my small part to help out, even though it isn't much and I sure it helps a little. If I recall correctly, those sandwiches are pretty tasty too.

That was a powerful and emotional comment. I would suggest that you keep tabs at the local pawn shops in the area - including Hearne, and keep your eyes and ears open. These things will eventually turn up somewhere, because the money is probably needed for fast drugs.

Comment Title: UNCLE GLENN GUILLORY REACTS
I am appalled at the fact that a community like this has a rash of burglar style rifling of a private home, not one, but many! I am Michael and Carolina's Uncle Glenn, and my deceased older brother is Charles, parent of Michael, and the gun he gave Michael was a treasure of a father's gift to his beloved son. Everything my brother Charles gave to his children was somehow specially blessed with his own trademark of love and lesson. He was a teacher who taught subtly and almost mystically...and his gifts to us were our treasures. I am not joking, but I believe, my older brother was such a protector of us all, that if divine intervention can help the recovery of these belongings, and somehow see that the thieves are punished, well, they will wish they never touched that rifle, or anything belonging to my precious Nephew and new beautiful bride. We'll pitch in to help them back on their feet as will many, but I am most impressed by the SHOCK IN THE FORCE that was felt by all the family, even let's say even ancestors...this was not just a theft, but a true sin against love...and home, and justice is inevitable. In the meantime, sad to say, the bright side is that Carolina and Michael learned early a lesson many of us only learn as old persons: material things are unimportant. Well, unimportant to us as humans, but I can tell you my older brother, Charles (Bubba) IS REALLY REALLY ANGRY NOW!!! THE STUPID THIEVES HAD NO IDEA WHOSE KID THERE WERE SCREWING WITH! THREE PRAYER REQUESTS FROM ME TO THE READERS: 1. CAROLINA AND MICHAEL OBTAIN REPLACEMENTS SOON OF NECESSITIES. 2. PRAY FOR THE POLICE IN THEIR WORK, AS THEY ARE DEDICATED TO RIGHTING SUCH WRONGS. 3, PRAY FOR THE STUPID THEIVES, AND PRAY WHEN THEY ARE CAUGHT THEY DON'T HAVE TO FEEL THE TRUE WRATH THEY HAVE IGNITED, ONLY ENOUGH JUSTICE TO REFORM THEM. OH, ONE MORE PRAYER...that they ate the spoiled food and drank all the alcohol in one swoop, and got SICK!
