A man remained jailed Thursday after police said he broke into a Cameron home, then shoved and slapped a 10-year-old boy who also wasgrabbed by the throat, according to a police report.
Joshua Lee Maricle, 24, of Cameron, was arrested for burglary of a habitation to commit an assault and injury to a child, Cameron Lt. Kris Stringer said.
Authorities said that Maricle became angry at the boy in front of the child's home in the 1000 block of West Housing Project Street off Twelfth Street just before 10 p.m. Wednesday. Stringer wasn't sure why he was angry, but said it had something to do with a toy gun.
Authorities said the man knew the boy, but they weren't related.
Maricle forced his way in the front door of the home, pushed the boy on a couch, straddled him and slapped him, Stringer said.
"He drug him into a hallway and was shaking him and they both fell onto the floor," Stringer said. "And then the suspect got up and picked the kid up by the throat."
Several people who live in apartments across the street heard the commotion and called police, Stringer said.
The boy had minor bruising and pain, he said.
"He was probably more scared than anything," Stringer said.
Child Protective Services is investigating the case.
Maricle was being held in the Milam County Jail on $52,500 bail.
