Eagle Staff Report
A College Station man was released from jail Monday after being charged with driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a gun, officials said.
John Wesley Taylor, 23, was pulled over for a traffic stop Sunday near Harvey Mitchell Parkway and Welsh Avenue after an officer said he saw him driving erratically, according to a police report.
When asked if he had been drinking, Taylor said he drank two beers, officials said, adding that they discovered Taylor's license was invalid and placed him under arrest.
After completing eight sobriety tests and failing five, he was charged with a DWI, according to the report.
Before impounding his vehicle, police said they performed a search and found a handgun.
He was taken to Brazos County Jail and released on $8,000 bail. Authorities said Taylor has a prior DWI charge pending.
Unlawfully carrying a weapon is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
