A public retirement reception for longtime Community Librarian Clara Mounce will be Friday.
All three libraries in the Bryan-College Station library system will close at 3 p.m. so employees can attend Mounce's reception from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bryan Public Library, at 201 East 26th Street.
Mounce has served the city of Bryan for more than 30 years. For more than 20 years, she has overseen the three libraries.
"She truly loves her job and the community -- and it shows in all that she does," said Deputy City Manager Joey Dunn.
Mounce led the restoration effort of the Carnegie Library in downtown Bryan and worked to secure grant funding for new library equipment and programs.
"I've had seven supervisors in my 31 years, and they all have been wonderful," Mounce said. "The employees of the library have been exceptional to work with. I look forward to doing volunteer work with them. I'm leaving them in the hands of Larry Koeninger, who has impressed us all."
Koeninger started Nov. 16 as the new community librarian.
