Cook-off jump-starts Go Texan Weekend

Burleson County's Go Texan Weekend will kick off Oct. 10 with a chili and barbecue cook-off.

The two-day event, at the Buddy and Edile Lightsey Arena in Caldwell, will feature a dominoes contest, horse rides and a petting zoo for kids and a horseshoe and washers contest on Oct. 10. Team penning rodeo activities will be held Oct. 11.

The winners of the barbecue contest will represent Burleson County in the statewide contest at the 2010 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Festivities begin at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 10 and 4 p.m. on Oct. 11.
