Family sets up fund for local fire victim

-- Eagle Staff Report

Family members of a man who was burned in what officials are calling a suspicious fire have set up a fund to help with medical expenses.

College Station firefighters responded to a report of fire in the 2800 block of Longmire Drive on Nov. 19.

Initial reports stated there was evidence of a possible explosion and the possible manufacturing of illegal drugs.

Toney Ray Edwards Jr., 28, was taken to The College Station Medical Center before being transferred to a Houston hospital where he was treated for extensive burns.

He was the only one injured in the fire that was mostly contained to the bedroom area of his apartment.

The fire still is under investigation by the College Station police and the College Station Fire Marshal.

Edwards has undergone three surgeries since the fire and is scheduled to undergo a fourth. A family friend said at least 11 surgeries are planned.

Those interested in making a donation can do so at any local Citibank location in person, or by mail to The Toney Ray Edwards Jr. Benefit Account, 100 Rockne Road, Somerville, Texas, 77879.
