Girl Scouts to be lauded for giveaway

Local Girl Scout Troop 9449 collected more than 700 coats and blankets from area schools and businesses for Twin City Mission's November Coat and Blanket Giveaway.

Each girl in the troop worked at least 15 hours coordinating and collecting donations for the drive, which counts as their Bronze Award project.

Their donations made up about a third of the items distributed last fall.

Members of Troop 9449 are: Kay Simmons, Mikayla Barry, Claire Simmons, Emily Petry, Kaylea Minter, Morgan Minter, Megan Jones, Jennifer Newsom, Angela Flores and Allie Phillips.

These and other Girl Scouts earning their bronze, silver or gold awards will be honored May 2 at the Girl Scout Leader and Award dinner.
