Grimes County traffic alert

Those traveling along F.M. 244 between Texas 30 and C.R. 173 Tuesday night into Wednesday morning are asked to use caution and look for traffic markers, according to law enforcement officials.

The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office said an 18-wheeler carrying a large industrial crane missed the turn to go to the Texas Municipal Power Agency Office in Anderson at around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday. As a result, traffic was stopped on the roadway for much of Tuesday, but has since reopened.

The decision was made by officials with the Texas Department of Transportation to leave the 18-wheeler and crane on the side of the roadway overnight until the appropriate equipment can be brought in to move it.

Crews will be in the area Wednesday morning with a larger crane to remove the 18-wheeler from the side of the roadway.
