Horse rescued from septic tank

A horse that had fallen into a septic tank was pulled out by volunteer firefighters early Friday, officials said.

Officials at the Grimes County Sheriff's Department said the horse's owner called around midnight Thursday to report that the animal had fallen through the lid of the septic tank and was trapped with its head just above the waste line.

The Bedias Volunteer Fire Department used a tractor to free the horse.

The animal was in the tank for more than an hour, officials said, and suffered injuries to its ears and chin.

Officials said the owners were planning to take the horse to the veterinarian Friday.
