Ice center trying to break world record

A Guinness world record will be at stake at the Arctic Wolf Ice Center on Wednesday.

The center is hosting an event where all attendees will get the chance to break the Guinness world record race for the barefoot 100m dash on ice, organizers said. It starts at noon and will continue until 2 p.m.

Entrance to the event -- which will be broadcast live on Candy 95, a local FM radio station -- is $4, which allows participation in a wing-eating contest, listening to live music and being eligible for prizes.

Organizers said the event is open to all, but is geared toward Texas A&M and Blinn College students, since finals start Friday. Everyone is invited to stay for a public skate that will start at 3:30 p.m.

Contact Chrissy Felice at 693-3900 or e-mail cfelice@arcticwolfice.com for more information.

Comment Title: World Record???
If it occurs inside the rink in a straight line, then it won't be 100 meters. The rink is 200' x 85' with the longest possible diagonal being 217 feet or roughly 66 meters. As with all of the programs at Arctic Wolf, the actual event fails to measure up to their advertising and promotions.
