Jurors being picked in Burleson lawsuit

Jury selection in a lawsuit filed against owners of a railroad tie manufacturing plant in Somerville will enter its third day Wednesday.

Of the 500 jurors summoned Monday and Tuesday to the Burleson County Courthouse, 165 appeared, according to Houston attorney Jared Woodfill, one of several lawyers representing former employee Dennis Davis and his wife, who brought the suit.

The number of jurors was narrowed to 58 over the past two days.

Woodfill said the process is complicated by the number of Burleson County residents who have connections to suits filed against the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Co. Several potential jurors were dismissed this week because they were related to or were among the plaintiffs in one of the suits, he said.

The Davises' suit claims BNSF is responsible for Dennis Davis' cancer. Davis, who is undergoing chemotherapy, will be called as a witness, his attorney said.

Jury selection will resume Wednesday morning in District Judge Reva Towslee-Corbett's courtroom.

Comment Title:
for all the residents in the Brazos Valley area that live close to an oilfield injection well. You are subject to the same health problems from all these leaking injection well around that are not being correctly inspected by the Railroad Commission.
