Local couples dance for charity (new video)

Dancing for the Health of It

The nonprofit Health For All Clinic raised $50,000 at a weekend fundraiser that put the spotlight on local residents showing off their dance moves.

To watch local officials, educators, members of the media, business folk and more strut their stuff on the dance floor, check out a video shot by The Eagle on the event: www.theeagle.com/video/Dancing-for-the-Health-of-It

Tokens were purchased for guests to then vote on who their favorite celebrity dancer was at the event — Dancing for the Health of It! — at the Brazos County Expo.

Twenty-one pairs danced a variety of styles, including two-step, the fox trot, the waltz, merengue, polka and cha-cha. Each group created their own routine and wore costumes for the dances.

Four judges rated the dancers on a scale of 1 to 10.

The Champion Award was presented to Clay and Stacy Riebe, who raised more than $3,000 through token sales.

The Best Costume Award was given to Donnis Baggett, editor of The Eagle, and his wife, Beverly Brown. Ron and Katie Fox, Gridworks director and owner of Fox Marketing, won the Best Showmanship Award.

College Station Superintendent Eddie Coulson and Lauren Osborne, a first-grade teacher from Dallas, were given the Best Technique Award.

Health For All is a nonprofit clinic in Bryan serving low-income, medically uninsured patients throughout the area.

Other dancers included: David and Catherine Childers, Allison and Jordon Meserole, Shawn and Nicole Ponzio, Jeff and Amanda Mann, Celia Goode-Haddock and Bill Haddock, Gene and Kathy Joyce, Todd and Sally Matthews, Stephen and Allyson Wright, Shane McAuliffe and Meredith Stancik, Jerrod Johnson and Kristin Haney, Mary and David Stasny, David and Julie Gardner, Clayton and Jana Rhoades, Nkrumah Dixon and Danny Ballard, Cal and Beth McNeil, Barry and Angie Solcher, and Saysha Kovacevich and Marty Cangelose.
