Madisonville to host mushroom festival

The eighth annual Texas Mushroom Festival will be held Oct. 16 and 17 in downtown Madisonville.

The weekend celebration of mushrooms and Texas wines will begin with a dinner featuring Nolan Ryan Beef and Monterey Mushrooms paired with Texas wines. The meal will be prepared by the Brazos Valley Chefs Association. An auction will follow.

A wine tasting, cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts vendors, a dance and a children's carnival are also on the agenda.

On Oct. 17, participants can join in the 5K run and walk at Lake Madison. The festival gets under way at 10 a.m. downtown. A full day of entertainment will include sampling food and wine, an amateur photography contest, mushroom-growing demonstrations, arts and crafts, food vendors, an auto showcase and entertainment.

Participants can have pictures taken with the Mushroom Festival Queen and her court and Bella, the festival mascot.
