Mayors facing off in charity drive

The mayors from Bryan and College Station will attempt to out-raise each other in a charity drive by ringing a bell for the Salvation Army on Saturday.

Bryan Mayor Mark Conlee will ring the bell at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter on Briarcrest Drive from noon to 1 p.m. College Station Mayor Ben White will be ringing the bell at the Wal-Mart on Brothers Boulevard during the same time.

Conlee raised $3,000 last year, while White raised around $1,600.

A bell-themed trophy will be presented to the winning mayor from the losing mayor at a future council meeting, organizers said.
