Philanthropy Day honors area donors

Donors, volunteers and community grant recipients recently were honored at an annual celebration called National Philanthropy Day.

The Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley gave the awards at a reception hosted by Gina and Bill Flores.

Among the donors honored by President Derek Dicston were Marie and Red Cashion and Kyle and Beverly Greenwood. Community grant awards were presented to Voices for Children, CASA for Kids of Austin, Waller and Washington counties, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Brazos Valley.

The Community Foundation has issued 97 grants totaling more than $250,000 to 31 nonprofit organizations in the Brazos Valley over the past year.

The honorees for the 2010 Community Foundation Tribute Luncheon were Kathy and Gene Joyce, who have been selected for their philanthropic service to the community.

The purpose of the Community Foundation is to promote long-term philanthropic giving in the Brazos Valley through the establishment and management of charitable endowment funds.

For more information, contact Dictson at 575-4496 or derek@cfbv.org.
