An 11-year-old Bryan boy was bitten by a neighbor's pit bull Tuesday, authorities said.
The youth was bitten by a 9-month-old pit bull at a neighbor's house in the 500 block of West 29th Street around 3 p.m., Bryan police spokesman officer Jason James said.
The boy was taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center, where he was released after treatment for minor injuries, including a small puncture wound on his chest.
The dog was in quarantine Tuesday, and James said the incident was still under investigation.

Comment Title: Pit bull
Any dog can bite and cause damage. Its a matter of training your dog and making sure they have no aggresive tendencies. I have owned pit bulls for the past 15 years and i have no problem with my dogs. You are what makes your dog , do the right thing and be responsible and make sure that your dog is secure and that noone but whom you choose is around your dog. I also dont agree with chaining your dog , it makes them aggresive no matter the breed. Sometimes there are accidents and yes they are just that. It dosent make them right it just means they need to be fixed so it dosent happen again. Having a dog is like having a kids. Would you chain your kid?

Comment Title: If only we had more information
Well, according to the KBTX site. This dog was behind a fence and also on a chain. At this point, I'd say an 11 year old should know better than to trespass. Serves him right.

Comment Title: Why?
Why is there such a rush to blame the victim here? A dog breed known to have agressive instincts attacks someone and everyone seems to assume he was poking it with a stick. That's a little sick if you ask me.

Comment Title: I don't have a problem with pitbulls.
Whoever posted the first comment with my name should be ashamed... Pitbulls are great pets if you know how to control them and don't teach them to be mean. The little boy probably provoked the dog

Comment Title: Pit Bulls
Look you people want to talk about low income, backyard trash need to grow up.A dog is what you make it...It's not born to be mean, like your high dollar poodles, they to can bite..It's just when yours bites you keep it out of the papers by saying the neighbors uncontrollable kids were picking on it.I'm sorry the kid got bit but what was he doing to the dog???????? I have 2 of my own and plan on having more, they are well mannered and will only bite if provoked by someone or something that does NOT belong in my house, yard or near my kids when there not supposed to be.....You can call it mean I call it protecting what is there family........

Comment Title: Don't Kid Yourself.
My heart goes out to this kid, and to anyone who says he needs to 'grow a pair' or that pits are 'sweet dogs' I can offer the following: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3246/2862963456_a6b2cfb3a9.jpg?v=0 That is a picture of my leg, taken in the ER, after I was attacked by a pit bull (also a puppy, about 40 lbs) less than 2 weeks ago. The dog had no history of aggressive behavior and yet attacked me without provocation. Luckily I was able to pull it off of myself and escape, something I doubt an 11 yr old could accomplish easily (it was hard enough for me). The fact is that Pit Bulls have been historically bred for their aggressive nature and it's impossible to say when they can snap. Even young ones are powerful dogs and can pack a powerful bite. If the kid had been bitten by a tiger no one would be defending tigers. Why do we defend a dangerous breed of dog? If you can't be a responsible dog owner, then you shouldn't own a dog period, and that goes double for dangerous breeds like this. While it may be true that Pits are capable of being loving and kind, that does not excuse the fact that they can also mutiliate and even kill. And to the person who said the puppy did nothing wrong, since when is biting a child acceptable behavior for a pet? The mindset of some folks regarding these animals is so backwards sometimes, it's frightening.

Comment Title: BREAK__THE__CHAINS
Too many people, who have no business owning dogs have these pits tied up in the yard. I will admit that I don't trust this "loving" breed in the first place but chaining a dog of any breed is likely to cause problems.

Comment Title: 9 months?
A 9 month old dog regardless of breed, is still just a PUPPY...give me a break, this 11 year old kid needs to grow a pair and learn how to push off a 9 month old puppy when it's playing a little too rough. Now its quarantined and has no idea what it did wrong...because it didnt do anything wrong

My question is, was the kid teasing the dog? I see many times that kids will tease dogs on chains and in fenced yards. I don't think the pit bull breed is dangerous unless it has been abused or trained for fighting.

Jamie... You seem to be the tash honey. Pits are constantly given a bad rep. They can be very loving and kind . You do not know the full story. Dog bites happen every day. Only ones about Pits are reported.(or so it seems)
