Police: Chain was involved in assault

Two Bryan men were in jail Tuesday after one attacked the other with a heavy metal chain, police said.

Demetric Walker, 45, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Bryan police said they were called to a disturbance in the 900 block of East Martin Luther King Jr. Street about 2 p.m. Monday. Walker told police the other man came at him with a knife, but officers were unable to find the weapon, according to the police report.

The other man told police he was walking with his grandchildren when Walker hit him in the head with the chain for no reason. He was treated for a head injury at St. Joseph Regional Health Center and released.

He was charged with giving false information to a police officer and was also being held in the Brazos County Jail on unrelated charges. His bail was set at $15,000.

Walker was being held on $11,000 bail.

Comment Title: Probable Cause
Demetric Walker has such an extensive record and number of bookings at Brazos County Jail it would appear that any local law enforcement could search him at any time they see him citing probable cause. Looks like another train ride for Walker.

The victim was treated and released and then was held on "other unrelated charges" and furnishing false information to police. He most likely gave false information regarding his true identity and had outstanding warrants, but who knows. You are correct, not very adequate reporting.

Comment Title: Bryan Gangs
Less than a month after Ty Morrow became Bryan's police chief, three gang-related shootings happened in one night---Authorities say their numbers are hard to measure, but their activity is sometimes easy to find. Open dealing of drugs in the streets is just one criminal act BPD wants to end---According to those on the front lines of tracking gangs, here are the five biggest in Bryan, and how to identify them: - Latin Kings: predominately black and gold clothed members who favor the left side (pant leg rolled up, hats tilted, hand-signs, etc.) - Surenos: predominately blue and white clothed members who favor the right side - South Land Gangsters: predominately blue and white clothed members who favor the right side - Bloods: predominately red clothed members who favor the left - Crips: predominately blue clothed members who favor the right Authorities say there is often no coincidence when a young person exclusively wears the same colors every day and favors the same side. Even before Morrow's arrival, crime in Bryan had begun a steady decline since 2004. The numbers have not been this good, say authorities, since 1998, but it's gangs that, in part, are impeding further progress.------Bryan Gang Member Sentenced Sep 26, 2008 ----Bryan Police Ease Concerns About Gang Violence in Schools Oct 9, 2007 ----It was on Sunday afternoon, Bryan police were called to investigate a possible drive-by shooting on west 28th street. That incident could have involved local gangs, according to police.----Sep 4, 2007-----Bryan Man Accused of Gang-Related Shooting on Trial Nov 26, 2007 -----Bryan Man Sentenced for Gang Related Killing Nov 27, 2007 ----Alleged Gunman in Bryan Gang Shooting Arrested Oct 22, 2007 -----Man Arrested in 2005 Bryan Gang Shootout that Left One Dead Oct 18, 2008 ------Gang Violence on the Rise Again?
