Police: Man fails to flee courtroom
Staff Report
A 21-year-old Bryan man faces charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a public servant after trying to escape from a courtroom the day before, injuring an assistant district attorney and a bailiff, police said.
Police said Bryson Fedell Monroe was being sentenced for a separate offense at the Brazos County Courthouse on Tuesday.
Monroe signed commitment papers to start serving his time but attempted to run out of the courtroom when he saw the bailiff approaching him with handcuffs, officials said.
When Assistant District Attorney David Hilburn tried to stop Monroe, Monroe pushed him into the wall, injuring Hilburn's forehead, according to police reports.
Bailiff Wayland Van Nest wrestled Monroe to the floor, documents state, and sprained his ankle in the process.
Monroe was being held in the Brazos County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $47,000 bail.
Both Van Nest and Hillburn were treated and released from St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan on Tuesday.

Comment Title:
I have been a friend of the Hilburn family for more than a quarter of a century and find the comments inre David as demeaning and unwarranted. The family is known for its dedication to public service as well as courage and David is no exception. Also, as "professionals," you could at least have the skill and presence of mind to properly spell his surname in the second reference.

I think Hilburn was probably trying to flee in terror and crashed into the wall, actually.
