A 31-year-old Brazos County man was arrested Tuesday, accused of molesting his two stepdaughters, authorities said.
The girls' mother told police that her husband abused the girls, who are teenagers, until at least 2005.
The man was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony punishable by five years or life in prison, and indecency with a child by sexual contact, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison.
The man, who has a lengthy criminal record, was being held in the Brazos County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail Tuesday night.
Police said the mother learned of the abuse after the girls' grandmother found an entry in one of the teens' journals stating that she was in love with her stepfather.
When confronted by the mother, the girl said the stepfather had been having sex with her for several years. The other sibling reported the abuse at the same time, officials said.
Bryan police suspected that the girls were sexual assault victims in 1997, after both contracted STDs, according to police documents. No charges were filed in that case, according to the documents, because of a lack of evidence.
Bryan police Detective Chris Loup said that in most sexual assault cases, the victims know the abuser and that in many cases, the abuser is a family member and a repeat offender.
"It's not so much a standard 'popping up from behind the bushes' that we're mainly concerned about, but mainly stuff going on inside the home," Loup said.
Unfortunately, he said, when a parent is sexually assaulting a child, the other parent typically doesn't advocate for the child, and that lack of support exposes the child to even more mental and physical abuse.
"If a child grows up with Dad coming in and touching them, that's going to be normal for them," he said.
Loup said it's important for families experiencing abuse to seek professional help "because it's not going to stop until someone steps in and stops it. It will just escalate and get worse, or the perp will move on to someone else."
The detective said that when he began working sexual assault cases, he tried to figure out what could cause such behavior. But now, he said, he focuses more on helping the victim.
"There's never going to be a way to figure out what makes a person do that to someone else," Loup said.

Comment Title: INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY
First of all i must say that there is alot of ignorance on this page. How can any of you people assume someone is guilty until evidence and the law have proven so? It is a sick world, and i must say that there is alot of so called "women" and "girls" that abuse the system and utilize the general fact that it's easy to just say someone has violated them. I must say that i do feel for women that this truely happens to, however i do know that there are far too many men out there that are having their whole lives taken away from them due to women who are doing things out of spite and low self esteem. Its called fatuation!! I have a very close friend who's doing 47 yrs in prison all because of a woman who was jealous that this man was married and didn't want her. Now his 2 little boys and wife are having to struggle day to day without him. While this trashy female runs the streets and who knows who she will get next. People wake up.. you don't know that this man has committed the crime that he's being held for. Give the man a little respect! Now sounds to me like we have a "thin line between love and hate" episode going on here. If this women and her daughters are lying on this man, then they should be held accountable for all their lies that could possibly ruin this mans life forever. Think about it ladies we all know how easy it is to say "he did it"!! God bless everyone and god knows the truth!! Remember Karma is beast and she hates ugly!!

to @@@@@: Just be sure and keep your kids away from him. You wouldn't want to subject them to the same thing these girls got and have to live with the guilt that you SHOULD have known the truth the whole time.

Comment Title: @@@@ Needs to wake up and face the truth
I would stand my kids any time they made a sexual claim NO Matter who they accused. Any good parent would make sure that it is deeply investigated. To the fiance, I hope you open your eyes. I have not tolerance for child molesters or rapist they make me sick to my stomach and I actually fell like I may vomit right now. If you ever been or are ever assaulted you will know why people have the comments that they do.

This monster needs to be in prison for the rest of his miserable life. @@@@@ needs to be in prison right beside him. What a disgusting piece of trash to take up for such human filth. Let me guess...you have kids too and have no problem putting them at risk because you are so pathetic you have to have a man to define you no matter how sorry he is. Women like you make me ashamed to be one.

Its quite possible the STD's were transmitted to the girls at birth. Many females exhibit no symptoms or the symptoms are delayed. The old police reports indicate there was no evidence of foul play or not enough evidence to pursue the case. Having STD's is not as uncommon as you might think and by itself is no cause for removing children from a home. I also agree with the Eagle about not revealing the name. The girls are 15 and could be subject to ridicule by their peers. See the person below claiming direct knowledge in the case.

Actually,i'm his fiance and i know he didn't do it. For the simple fact they weren't even together in '97 and he has never had an std in his life he has been tested numerous times.

Yes, you're darn right you take the kids away from the mother if they contacted two STD's at the age of 4!! The mother should be locked up. And there is nothing for these girls to be ashamed of, they did NOTHING wrong, so I have no idea why the Eagle protects these men. He could also be abusing a neighbor's kid or another relative's kid. The public needs to know who he is!

to @@@@: you're almost as bad as the molester for taking up for this s.o.b. The molester has a lengthy arrest record and the children admitted the abuse happened. Get real. Geez, this whole family, and apparently the people who know them, are all a bunch of messed up sickos.

I know for a fact that he didn't mess with those girls cause, the girls mom told him she was gonna get him in trouble for not being with her. You can't make a man be with you if he doesn't want you.

Don't jump on the doctor or the police, or child welfare. Both chlamydia and gonorrhea can be passed to a child from the mother at birth. Three fourth of women do not have any symptoms of chlamydia. Many women have no symptoms of gonorrhea. So the children are diagnosed with the STD's at four. The doctor obviously reported it as it was in a police report. Who do you arrest with certainty? Do you take a mothers kids away because she contacted STD's? No one is sure where the STD's came from. Thank goodness for a nosey grandma. When this guy goes to the pen, he will get a small portion of his just due.

Comment Title: disgusting!
this makes me absolutely sick!!! i feel as though too many people are protecting abusers. for example someone in here posted that they think that this man never touched these kids. HOW DID 4 YR OLDS GET STDS!! the mother should be locked up for the rest of her life, she is garbage. she knew this man was abusing her daughters when these kids turned up with stds, and why didn't the doctors contact child protection services, those children should have been removed from that home at 4 yrs old. that garbage mother does not deserve those kids. i'm sure this mother knew this had been going on for several years and allowed it so that she could keep her man. i hope this man is put in prison for the rest of his life. and as for this mother, she needs to be put away also. she is abosulte trash, i know it's a small town, but these girls are victims and should not be embarassed, thank god the grandmother reported this to the police.

Comment Title: disgusting/tragic
This mother and grandmother need to be arrested as well. To have known this was going on, and not report it is acting in the role of an accomplice. The girls need to be taken from that home, and given a safe haven from both those women who hid this horrible crime....also, I agree with others, why was something not done in the discovery of the 4 year olds sexually transmitted disease--what more evidence is necessary.....someone is law enforcement or the court system is just as negligent as the other adults here....or the doctor --- this is just dereliction of duty all the way around...by all who knew. Are these people totally ignorant, retarded or what?!!!!!

I sure hope someone is investigating the Bryan Police officers that knew these girls has a STD and did nothing to protect them. An STD in a 4 year old child SHOULD be enough evidence.

Thank God for the grandmother looking in her journal. As for the mother... I'm so sick of "mothers" defending their boyfriends instead of their own flesh and blood. These types of people do not deserve to even be called mothers in my opinion. So many women are so desperate for a man to call their own that they put him before everyone..even their children. It sounds like we need to pray for these girls and the mother. That she can see these girls were a blessing from God and they need her love, trust, and understanding more than anything.

I don't he did this to those girls. There mom wants him back cause he seperated from her. If you think a man molested your kids why would you still want that man!! He is innocent, he has never messed with a child in his life.

Comment Title: WHAT???
You mean to tell me these girl had chlamydia and gonorrhea when they were 4 years old. What happened after that. Did the doctor or family report this because at 4 yrs old you don't just up & get chlamydia or gonorrhea. Did they just turn the other check & not do anything at all about this. Maybe if something was done then this would have never continued to go on. My heart goes out to the family & the girl for what they have had to go through all these years. The stepdad need to rot under the jaihouse.

Comment Title: show some respect
I cant believe that the eagle posted that these girls contracted Chlamydia and gonorrhea. These girls are 15 years old, and this is a small town. Word gets around fast, and these girls have been through enough. If you know the names of these girls DO NOT POST IT!! Show some class and respect for them. They need to move away from this town and leave the past here with it! I hope this coward burns in hell for eternity. If these girls need help financialy, then we should donate to help them move, they can never live a good life here now.
