Police need help catching robber

The man who robbed the Wells Fargo bank in Marquez on May 14 is believed to be responsible for at least 12 other bank robberies, and investigators say they need the public's help finding him.

The robberies date back to 2004, and most were at banks along the Interstate 35 corridor, Leon County Sheriff Mike Price said. The man is believed to be connected to robberies in San Antonio, around the McLennan County line and in the Georgetown area. The farthest north he's gone is Valley View, between Denton and Gainesville, Price said.

Price said several leads have developed from tips from the public, but more information is needed.

"I think the only way we're going to do any good with this is, somebody is going to recognize this guy," he said.

Price said the man walked into the Marquez Wells Fargo, pointed a gun and demanded money. He is white, about 50 years old, between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 10 inches tall and 200 to 250 pounds. His gray hair and beard may have been part of a disguise.

A reward of up to $20,000 is being offered for information.

Price encouraged people to visit www.bandittracker.com to view security camera images of the robber in an effort to help identify him.

Police ask anyone with information about the man to call Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477 or the FBI at 512-323-4400.

"This guy is very good. He knows what he's doing," Price said. "There is a good possibility we might find somebody who recognizes this guy."
