Police report man arrested after chase
A Bryan man who police said didn't stop when a Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to pull him over remained behind bars late Sunday.
Police said Phillip Wayne Strider, 23, used a vehicle to evade arrest, which means the charge was elevated from a misdemeanor to a state jail felony. It's a misdemeanor if a defendant flees from police on foot.
Court documents state that Strider was speeding on F.M. 2818 at about 11 p.m. Saturday when a trooper attempted to pull him over. The trooper followed Strider to Monito Way, where Strider lives, and made the arrest there.
Strider also was charged with driving with a suspended license. Bail was set at $5,800.

Mesquite police investigate shooting
MESQUITE -- Mesquite police say a 21-year-old driver was shot at least once following a confrontation with occupants of another vehicle and then crashed the van he was driving into the center barrier on U.S. Highway 80.
Mesquite police say that the driver was taken to a Dallas hospital in critical condition. Two passengers suffered minor injuries when the van hit the barrier early Sunday.
