Quintana takes helm at Physicians Centre

Jay Quintana, former chief executive of Triumph Hospital of El Paso, has taken over the reins at The Physicians Centre.

Quintana replaces Michelle Fortune, who has assumed the vice president of operations post for National Surgical Hospitals. The Chicago-based corporation became managing partner and owner of the Bryan specialty hospital in 2004, four years after the 46,000-square-foot center opened its doors.

Quintana spent five years as CEO of Triumph Hospital of El Paso, an acute long-term care facility operated by Houston-based Triumph Healthcare. He became CEO of The Physicians Centre on Monday.

"Jay has extensive experience in health care, with a primary focus in long-term acute care, as well as case management," Fortune said.

The new CEO earned his master's degree in health care administration from Webster University. His wife, Missy, and their daughters, Sidney and Tyler, have joined him in Bryan-College Station.

"I'm ready to hit the ground running," Quintana said Tuesday. "I want to entrench myself in the community and really learn about the value we provide here."

Quintana said he took the job as an opportunity to return to the area. Missy Quintana is a Texas A&M University graduate, he said.

Fortune, who received her degree in nursing from Gardner Webb University and has nine years of experience in hospital and ambulatory surgery center management, had served at the helm at The Physicians Centre for 2 1/2 years.

"I think this is a wonderful opportunity for me to use both my experience in health care administration and my nursing background to really effect quality in all of the hospitals in our system," Fortune said Tuesday of her new position. "It also allows me to maintain some roots here in the Brazos Valley, where I can stay connected with physicians in a community I've really come to love and respect."

As vice president of operations, Fortune will oversee The Physicians Centre and National Surgical's 20 other locations nationwide. The corporation operates specialty hospitals in 10 states, primarily across the South and Midwest. Its Texas hospital sites include Bryan, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, El Paso and The Woodlands.

The Physicians Centre in Bryan focuses on orthopedic care, pain management, women's health, general surgery and ear, nose and throat.
