Religion Notes for August 16

Christ United Methodist Church is hosting Financial Peace University, a 13-week biblically based course on personal finance.

This class is for all people who want to learn more about getting out of debt, budgeting, how real estate and mortgages work, investing for college or retirement, how to deal with creditors and more.

The classes will start Sept. 7 at 5:30 p.m. Child care will be provided.

Stearne Chapel AME Church, 2611 W. 28th St. in Bryan, will host a homecoming and family celebration Sunday at 3 p.m.

Current and former members, family, friends and guests are invited.

Dinner will be served after the service.

St. Francis Episcopal Church, 1101 Rock Prairie Road in College Station, will offer a free knitting workshop Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Rev. Anne Cudd and Mary Beth Bowles will lead the class. Everyone is welcome. Please bring size 11 or 13 knitting needles and 3 skeins of yarn (Lion Brand Homespun is recommended) for a full shawl. Extra supplies will be available.

Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1001 Woodcreek Drive in College Station, invites the public to a dinner and contemporary worship Sunday.

A light supper begins at 5:30 p.m. The worship service begins at 6:15 p.m.

St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station will have an informational meeting for those interested in learning more about the Catholic faith Aug. 24 beginning at 9:45 a.m. in the church's Zurek Hall.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults classes will be held each Sunday at 10 a.m. beginning in September.

The classes are designed to prepare adults for baptism, communion, and confirmation in the Catholic Church. They are open to anyone interested in becoming Catholic and to Catholics who want to learn more about church teachings.
