Details surrounding Murano's exit continue to emerge

It’s been more than two months since Elsa Murano resigned as Texas A&M president, but information requested by The Eagle surrounding her departure continues to slowly emerge.

The most recent open records request answered by Texas A&M involved documents tied to a $16 million loan given to the Athletic Department — a line of credit made public only because Murano mentioned it in a self-evaluation during her performance review.

Former president Robert Gates initiated the loan but never signed a contract, prompting Murano to get one signed soon after she learned about within months of taking office.

The documents obtained by the newspaper show at least one request by the Athletic Department to have the loan “forgiven.” E-mails and interviews with officials reveal a department in turmoil as the flagship university’s finance department takes over the checkbook for the Athletic Department.

Comment Title: Shake up at Texas A&M
This is the worst piece of Aggie Bashing ever. And that is saying something since the Eagle is proofed in Austin on the tu campus. This post is a combination of the two smartest people in the world---Obama and Gore--trust it like you would earth warming or government run health care.

Comment Title: the cost
I have seen the cost of severance cited as $750k, but we should keep in mind that the first four years of salary and lab fees are provided from someplace outside AgriLife. If that means the System, then the total cost of severance for Elsa is just over $2.1 million.

Comment Title: Trouble in hog-ville
Grandpa taught me decades ago that you have to keep the hogs separated or they will eat each other. Reading this coverage is like watching the hog buffet from a ring-side seat. It'll get messy and smelly, but maybe it will attract the attention of Texas taxpayers and remind them that our land-grant universities belong to THEM and not the swine in suits occupying administrative and political offices in CS and Austin. Wonder if anyone will represent purged/eliminated employees at the Regents' meeting?...Nah, probably not.

Here it is: the legendary story about a story. Journalism. Its the new Bear-Stearns. Seriously, Eagle is this just a convenience for comment posters, or a syllabus? Why present it as a story?
