A 22-year-old man accused of shooting a Cameron man over the weekend remained jailed Wednesday after he was pressured by family members to turn himself in, officials said.
Enrique Alejandro Luna of Cameron was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was being held in the Milam County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. Luna is accused of shooting Renee Lopez Jr. on Saturday. The 20-year-old was taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple, but hospital officials said he wasn't listed as a patient Wednesday night.
Cameron police Lt. Kris Stringer said Luna surrendered to police Tuesday afternoon shortly after his photo was posted on a local radio station's Web site.
"Luna stated that he was catching a lot of heat from his family and friends due to the Web site," Stringer said.
Police said they responded to a shooting call about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of West Main Street, where they found Lopez with a gunshot wound to his left leg.
It was unclear Wednesday night how detectives linked Luna to the shooting.
Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
