Teen takes stand against mother

Special to The Eagle
Laura Lee Cole

Prosecutors rested their case Wednesday in the felony sexual assault trial of Laura Lee Cole after testimony from her son and other witnesses.

Cole, 47, wiped tears from her face and watched as her 16-year-old son testified that his friend had told him about having sex with Cole.

"[It was] hurtful that my mom would do that with one of my own friends," he said.

Cole's son testified that his mother purchased alcohol for him and a group of friends and that she drank and smoked marijuana with them at their house in College Station in January 2007.

Cole was arrested that year after an investigation into reports that she had provided alcohol for a group of minors revealed that she had had sex with one of the teens, authorities said. It is The Eagle's policy not to publish the name of someone believed to be the victim of a sexual assault.

Prosecutors called to the stand three boys who were at Cole's house when the offenses are alleged to have taken place.

Although some details in their testimony differed, such as how long certain individuals were at the house, all three gave similar testimony that Cole purchased and provided the group with alcohol and that, by word-of-mouth, they knew of one of the boys' sexual encounter with Cole. One testified that Cole told him to "deny, deny, deny" to whoever asked him about the sleepover.

The boys also testified that Cole had exposed her breasts while showing off her tattoos.

The defense opened its case by calling the teenage boy who testified during the first day of the trial that Cole had sex with him while he was spending the night at her house.

He said Cole did not seem to be intoxicated when the two had sex, despite testimony that she had been drinking and smoking marijuana throughout the night.

"It looked like she was fine," he said.

Cole's defense attorney, Craig Greaves, asked the boy, now 16, to explain the differences between his testimony and his original statements to police.

The boy said he lied to police initially "because I felt like I was gonna get in trouble."

Greaves pointed to discrepancies between his second statement to police and his testimony, and the teen said he didn't remember every detail because it wasn't his most pleasant memory.

"It was something I tried to forget," he testified.

The trial is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. Thursday in the 85th District Court in the Brazos County Courthouse.

Comment Title: Idiot!
It was something he "tried to forget;" Whatever! As a former 14 year old boy myself, I can assure you that he was definitely not innocent in what happened. Sounds to me like the little idiot bragged about; got in trouble...and threw the poor MILF under the bus. Guess what moron; her life is ruined and so is your little "orphan" friend's. I imagine that if you just kept your mouth shut, the most trouble you would have gotten into with your Mama would be a grounding or a beating. Besides, Angelic 14 year old don't party with beer and pot?

Out of curiosity, what has this College Station woman's misbehavior to do with Bryan? The story is about a College Station Mom on trial.

Comment Title: OMG
This is so sick that it makes me feel like throwing up, then rushing to hug my own 14 year old boy closer to me. What is wrong with this world? Fry her, she deserves it. As for anyone who can say that it was great for the 14 year old? You belong behind a padded wall. Sexual abuse has long life changing ramifications that are always negative. I feel so sorry for the son that had to stand up in court against his mother. May we keep him in our prayers.

Comment Title: Bryan Get Ready
As you can tell by some of the comments below our children are not safe. They really think molesting a child, (because that is what she did) is okay. That is why I keep my kids real close. Because most College Station people do not love their skinny, non body having wives and the wives feel their husbands is lacking so much that a 14 year old has to step in. What are we going to do Jaimie, I know your dying to comment on this one.

Come on he is a 14 year old boy who was "furnished alcohol and illegal drugs - Marijuana" do you really think the word NO was anywhere around? This is where the ADULT is totally responsible being that she furnished the relaxants and the temptation. No fault for the boy being a boy. Totally her fault 110%.

This is disgusting. It is almost as disgusting as the College Station father who recently was charged with molesting his own 15 year old daughter. Both of these College Station parents need to have their children removed from their custody and serve extended prison terms.

Comment Title: SICK MOM!!!!!!!!!
Sleeping with your son's friend (AGE 14)and she was what 45 at the time. She was definately OLD enough to know better and with your son's friend. Proud of the son for speaking up and doing the right thing no matter how difficult this must be for him. She not only ruined the victims life, but her son's life and trust, and her life due to her "lust" or "sickness". I agree with Robin - Lock her up and throw away the key.

I applaud her son for testifying at trial for prosecution against his Mom...I know that must have been hard; but he did the right thing! The Mom messed her own kids life up too by doing this....what a shame!
