A groundbreaking event was held Monday for the construction of the Texas 6 overpass over Barron Road in College Station.
The Texas Department of Transportation and the City of College Station hosted the groundbreaking at 9:30 a.m., on the main lanes of Texas 6 in front of Barron Road.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded project will improve safety, increase capacity and provide a vital link for communities, TxDOT spokesman Bob Colwell said. Construction will build a new interchange at Barron Road by taking Texas 6 over Barron Road.
Congressman Chet Edwards was expected to join other officials at the event, Colwell said.
The $9 million dollar project is contracted to Glenn Fuqua Inc., out of Navasota, and is expected to take about 1.5 years to complete.
